About Length Converter
Length conversion is ratio-based. Every unit is defined as a multiple of the meter, so converting means multiplying by the source factor and dividing by the target factor. An inch, for example, is defined as exactly 0.0254 meters.
The metric units here scale by powers of ten, which makes them easy to convert by moving the decimal point. Imperial units do not: there are 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, and 1760 yards in a mile.
