About Data Storage Converter
This converter uses binary multiples: 1 kilobyte is 1024 bytes, 1 megabyte is 1024 kilobytes, and so on. This is how operating systems normally report file and disk sizes.
Drive manufacturers usually use decimal multiples instead, where 1 kilobyte is 1000 bytes. That difference is why a drive sold as 1 TB shows up as roughly 931 GB once formatted - the capacity is the same, only the definition of the unit changed.
Need a different kind of unit? The Unit Converter covers length, weight, temperature, data storage, area, speed, time, and volume on one page.
