The Lydian alphabet was used in the ancient kingdom of Lydia in western Anatolia (modern-day Turkey) between the 7th and 4th centuries BCE. It was copied from the Greek alphabet and adapted to represent the sounds of the Lydian language.

The script consisted of 26 letters, written primarily from right to left. Unlike the earlier Phoenician - derived scripts, the Lydian alphabet included both consonants and vowels, making it a true alphabet.

Its use gradually disappeared after Lydia fell under Persian and then Hellenistic control, with Greek becoming dominant in the region. Today, knowledge of the alphabet mainly comes from stone inscriptions and coins.
