Abugida
Indic Script (Abugida) is a writing system where each character represents a consonant + vowel combination, and the vowel sound can be changed with a diacritic or mark.
Examples
- Devanagari - used for Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Sanskrit, etc.
- Bengali - used for Bengali and Assamese.
- Gurmukhi - used for Punjabi.
- Gujarati - used for Gujarati.
- Oriya (Odia) - used for Odia.
- Tamil - used for Tamil.
- Telugu - used for Telugu.
- Kannada - used for Kannada.
- Malayalam - used for Malayalam.
- Sinhala - used for Sinhala (Sri Lanka).
- Thai - used for Thai (though not strictly Indic, derived from Brahmi).
- Tibetan - used for Tibetan and Dzongkha.
- Myanmar - used for Burmese and related languages.
