Definition and Usage

The defaultMuted property sets or returns whether the audio/video should be muted by default.

Setting this property will only change the default muted state, not the current. To change the current muted state, use the muted property.


Browser Support

The numbers in the table specify the first browser version that fully supports the property.

Syntax

Return the defaultMuted property:

audio|video.defaultMuted

Set the defaultMuted property:

audio|video.defaultMuted=true|false

Property Values

Value Description
true Indicates that the audio/video is muted by default
false Default. Indicates that the audio/video is NOT muted by default

Technical Details

Return Value: A Boolean, returns true if the audio/video is muted by default, otherwise it returns false
Default Value: false
